This is Azra's journal

Hihi, random visitor who happened to stumble across this journal!

I am
Azra the Librarian, and I'm a wannabe writer--but I am keeping this journal for one purpose and one purpose only: sporking bad writing. No pseudo-philosophical ramblings, no sharing my personal problems, no emo poetry, and no political blather--just sporking. I might also cross-post some fanfic here, though that's highly unlikely, and it will be friend-locked if it's smut that couldn't go on my DA.

I'm a moderator of Das Sporking, which is where all my sporks so far are hosted.

In which I look over ridiculous anon comments

So I've been leery about this little vent because an author responding to critics is always tricky ground to cover. So many Suethors lash out at perfectly reasonable criticisms, resorting to wanky tantrums and petty unsubtle Take Thats--so addressing critical reviews can come off as Suethor behavior/looking like you can't take criticism, even if it's mostly levelheaded and no "Return of Slade" or "Lady in the Water."

However, I decided to go ahead with it for a few reasons:

1) Keeping things all bottled up all the time isn't the best idea and I need to vent sometime.
2) Critics are no more always right and always valid than authors are; not all feedback has merit. Stupid, pointless flames do exist.
3) It's my personal journal, I can use it as I wish.

So, without further ado, awhile back I got a spate of anonymous unsigned reviews, mostly on AO3 but a couple on FFN as well. (You know, you could at least have the courage to sign your comments--I would certainly leave harsh or critical reviews under my own user handles!) And, well, it seems this lovely anon had a few... grievances with how I wrote, shall we say. Said grievances seem to be... completely petty, unfounded, and not actually over anything I'm not writing well. There's actually quite a bit of snark bait in here!

Let's dig in, shall we?

You know what makes writing bad? Liking fictional characters that a reader hates! )

The "About my World Guardian" masterpost

So I finally wrote up a proper profile for my take on the player character of RuneScape! Gonna host this both here and on my Tumblr.

It's all under the cut... )

How Bartz Met Boko Part II

Azra: And we're back! When we last left off, Bartz had just finished rescuing a lost chocobo egg after a chance encounter with Gilgamesh, who shouldn't have been there, and was nursing his wounds. Will the egg hatch soon? Will Bartz find out about being poisoned? Will the tense finally become consistent?

Well, I hope you enjoyed the sporking. I’m Azra the Librarian, and I’ll be seeing you all later for the next spork!

How Bartz Met Boko Part I

Azra: Hey hey hihi everyone, it’s Azra the Librarian and I am making a splash with my first shot at a sporking! Well, not so much a splash as a ripple. See, I’ve decided to start small, with something light. I’ll be pulling out the big guns later, when I’ve had more experience sporking.

So what’s on the menu today? One word: disappointment.

In which the author cannot decide between past and present tense... )

"How Bartz Met Boko" will be right back after these messages. Stay tuned for Part 2!
